40 issues. 3 red Porsches. 1 midlife crisis

This week: an Orient Red, a Carmona Red, a Ruby Red, and more.

This week Pepita Picks turns 40. Midlife crisis incoming.

The obvious antidote is a red Porsche at an affordable price, and as it happens, the universe agreed. Most of the picks this week arrived in various shades of red without any planning on my part.

Make of that what you will.

Onwards!

This striking 996.2 may be the antidote to a life crisis. You gotta pay for it, though.

It has a lot going on for it: IMS bearing and clutch done, full suspension refresh, extensive maintenance history, plenty of original bits and bobs. Oh, and the gorgeous and rare Orient Red Metallic paint, if you didn't notice already.

It's by far the most expensive 996 Carrera featured yet. The car has some Instagram history (@17milegarage) if you want to dig into its past. Whether the rare color and extensive maintenance is worth the premium is the question.

This private seller is letting go of their manual Carmona Red Metallic. They claim excellent maintenance history and no mechanical issues.

Priced on the higher side, but the rare color, wheels and options make the spec worth it. There's a Sports Chrono on the dash that the seller didn't even mention in the ad.

No fancy colors, no social media pedigree. Just a straight silver 997 at an excellent price. Manual gearbox, decently optioned (power seats, Sport steering wheel, Bi-Xenon lamps, more), and not a ton of miles.

  • Mechanical issues? Very low IMS bearing failure rate on this model year, but check the engine for bore scoring.

  • Current market? Normally priced in the mid $40,000s. Anything under $40K is worth a closer look and acting fast if you like the car.

Out There

You rarely see pictures of actual accidents in listings.

This PCA member wanted absolute transparency so they are sharing the actual moment of the carnage that made it to the CARFAX report.

For you to decide if the damage was structural or if you could live with it.

Adopted Puppies

Well-priced 996 C4S donโ€™t last. Itโ€™s no surprise the solid-looking one for $33,500 from last weekโ€™s issue sold quick.

One that hasnโ€™t sold yet, but warrants a second look is the manual 997 cab also from last week. Originally advertised for $36K, is now discounted to $32,000.
