Limited edition (1 of 250) priced like a vanilla Porsche
This week: A rare car in "RS Orange", rapid-fire picks, and a wholesome tribute
As the bad weather continues, I was glad to find such colorful cars this week.
I've had a couple of these Limited Edition orange Boxsters on my radar in the past, but I was never able to justify their premium asking price. That changed with this week's car.
And if that wasn't enough, the Out There section features a wholesome tribute to a rock legend.
Onwards!

Someone in Florida woke up this week, remembered they had a limited edition Porsche sitting in their garage not moving, and decided it was time to sell. Quick if possible.
There were 500 of these "Limited Edition" Boxsters made in 2008, split evenly between base and S cars.
All feature GT3 RS-inspired orange paint, aggressive front lip, revised rear spoiler, glossy black trim, Alcantara steering wheel and shifter. (Check PCA’s video on these cars for the deepest dive possible.)
There are two listings for the same car, both devoid of any real description. Basically just phone numbers. Normally I wouldn’t bother.
But for such a rare car, manual, low mileage, priced similarly to many vanilla Boxsters out there? Worth paying attention.
I'm excited for the person that will make this unique Limited Edition their new head-turner Porsche.
Market Report
Limited Edition Boxsters trade at a premium over standard 2008s due to low production. I've seen base Limited Edition models around the 30-35K mark in the past, more in extreme cases. They tend to be low-mile cars, kept as collection pieces rather than actually driven.
This one at $22,995 is priced closer to a vanilla Boxster despite the rare spec.
S models sell higher. One is currently asking $46K, and one was bid to $31K but didn't sell.
What You (and Your Mechanic) Should Know
This is a base 2008 Boxster under the hood. Robust 2.7L engine with the redesigned IMS bearing (sub-1% failure rate) and no bore scoring concerns.
Which I’d prefer over the S model, given the lack of description in the ad.
Your main job: dig up the service history. What's been done recently? When was the last major service? Don't buy blind on a rare spec without answers.
Best of the Rest
These cars also passed the Pepita filter this week:
🔗 This 2006 997 with an excellent description that lists good options, lots of service, including new clutch and IMS, for $39,500.
🔗 This 996 C4S, with a manual transmission, not yet at 100K miles, full leather interior for just $35,900.
🔗 This 2002 996, in good condition but with some interior wear, IMS sorted, .2 improvements for $28,000.
🔗 This 2-owner 987 Cayman in gorgeous Cobalt Blue, Sport Chrono package and excellent service history.
Out There
This listing took a piece of my heart.
The famous psychedelic Porsche 356 convertible driven by rock legend Janis Joplin sold at auction in 2015 for 1.76 million dollars.
For about 0.007% of that, you can have a much more reliable 986 Boxster tribute to the original.
The seller describes the car underneath (which has only been used as a show car) as being in top condition. Judging by the photos of their garage, full of automotive paraphernalia and other toys, I’m inclined to believe it.
The art job is a wrap, so if you ever get tired of it, you can return this Boxster to its stock looks (the listing even includes before-and-after pictures).
“Hopefully Janis goes into a cool Porsche guy’s collection.”
I sure hope so.
Adopted Puppies
The market continues to feel cold, but some cars are still moving. To the surprise of no one, the 15K manual Cayman in nice condition didn’t last the week. I’m also glad to see that the 27K manual C4S sold fast too. Long live the cab discount. Two .2 Boxsters from earlier in 2026 also seem to have found new owners. | ![]() |
